The Grace Children's Home was founded by Nandu and Anu Gurang in December of 2006. The home is located in the town of Kalimpong  Northern India in the State of West Bengal in the Southern Himalayan Mountains.

The first two children arrived all the way from Manipur on 18th December 2006.  As word spread, Pastor N.K. Gurung also brought in children from his personal encounters during his various field visits to remote villages within and around the vicinity of Kalimpong. As of  April 1st, 2007 the Home now has 18 children.

The children are either orphans with no parents, with one parent who is incapable of supporting the child or with a grandparent or a Good Samaritan in the immediate village as guardian.  All the children are from deprived origins with next to nothing to eat or wear.

The children live in the Home as one large family and for all of them this is the first place where they have come to understand family life and love.

The children are admitted to a local school based on their age and learning skills.  If a child is found to be emotionally unstable, traumatized or malnourished, they instead stay at the Home to be nurtured back to health and to have a more open and stable mind prior to admission to school.

We have observed that most have responded very quickly to the love, friendship, care and proper nutrition at the Home.  Since many of them are very young, in most cases this has been possible in a short time. Then  they are admitted to local schools where they quickly adjust to their new surroundings, friends and school routines.
